Privacy policy

In short

Libertylang does not require an account and has no server of its own. Everything you type, say or learn stays on your device. The only data that can leave the phone are anonymous usage statistics and crash reports, and only if you switch them on.

This policy explains what the app stores, which permissions it uses, which third-party services it talks to and how you control that.

Who is responsible

Libertylang is developed and published by Mykhailo Ponochovnyi as an independent developer. For anything about your data write to feedback@libertylang.com.

What stays on your device

Your name, native language, level, settings, learning progress, favourites, the words, phrases, topics and conversation partners you create, and the speech, voice, translation and language models you download are stored only on your phone.

We cannot see this data and it is not sent to us. Uninstalling the app deletes it. Your phone's own backup (Google or Apple) may include the app's data according to your device settings.

Microphone and speech recognition

The microphone is used only while the pronunciation check or the conversation partner is listening. Recordings are not stored and never reach us.

With the on-device recognition engine your speech is processed entirely on the phone. If you choose the system engine, the speech service of your phone (for example Google) processes the audio under its own privacy policy and may send it to its servers.

Voice, translation and AI on the device

The neural voice, the sentence translation and the conversation partner run on your device. What you say or write to the partner is not sent to us or to any AI service.

If you choose the system voice, the text to be read is handled by the text-to-speech engine of your phone. Translation uses Google ML Kit on the device; the language packs are downloaded from Google when you first need them.

Online word lookup

When you add a word and ask the app to fill it in online, the searched word is sent to verbformen.de (Netzverb). Like any website, it also receives your IP address. Nothing else you type leaves the phone.

Model downloads

Speech, voice and language models are downloaded from huggingface.co and github.com when you enable the respective feature. These services receive the usual request data such as your IP address. The app sends them nothing about you.

Usage statistics and crash reports

Only with your consent — the switch on the welcome screen or the switch on the Terms of use page — the app sends anonymous usage statistics and crash reports to Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics, services of Google.

They contain which screens and features are used, the app version, device model and system version, the app language, a pseudonymous installation identifier and, after a crash, technical data about the crash. They never contain your name, the text you type, your words, your conversations or audio.

Google processes this data on our behalf and keeps it for the limited period set in Firebase. You can switch the statistics off at any time; the app then stops sending them.

Study reminders

Reminders are scheduled locally on your phone. There are no push notifications and no server is involved.

Sharing text to Libertylang

Text you share from another app opens in the word editor and stays on your device.

Permissions

Microphone: pronunciation check and conversation. Internet: online word lookup, model downloads and, with your consent, statistics. Notifications: study reminders. Starting after a restart: restoring the scheduled reminders.

Children

Libertylang is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any personal data from them.

Your rights

Because the app keeps no personal data about you, there is nothing we could hand over, correct or delete on our side; the statistics cannot be linked to you. You control your data by editing it in the app, switching the statistics off or uninstalling the app.

If you live in the EU or the UK, you have the rights of the GDPR, including the right to complain to your data protection authority. Write to feedback@libertylang.com with any request or question.

Changes

This policy can be updated; the date at the top shows the current version. Substantial changes will be announced in the app.
